Unicamp receives Visiting Professor from Doha, Qatar

The School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of University of Campinas (Unicamp) received from March 1st to 7th, 2020 Ruben Peralta, professor and director of Trauma, Emergency and Surgery Critical Care Fellowship Program at Hamad General Hospital, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Doha, Qatar. He also serves as the Deputy Trauma Medical Director of the Hamad Trauma Center, which is the only Level 1 trauma center of Qatar. 

Peralta is one of the 8 professors who was selected for the “Program of Specialist Visiting Professor for Undergraduate” of Undergraduate Studies Office (PRG) of Unicamp, with the project “Medical simulation in basic and advanced life support for trauma patients”.

Peralta presented lecture to the students at 2nd year medical school and observed and joined the trauma simulation debriefing for 4th and 6th years students. He discussed cases at Telemedicine grand round and at the Division of Trauma Surgery weekly meeting where he presented the conference “Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC): leadership in the provision of high quality trauma care”.

During his stay at Unicamp he visited Prof. Marcelo Knobel, Rector; Prof. Mariano Laplane, Coordinator of Unicamp International Office; Prof. Marco Aurélio Lima, General Coordinator of International HUB for Sustainable Development (HIDS); Prof. Luiz Carlos Zeferino and Claudio R. S. Coy, SMS Director and Associated Director. The approved project to bring Prof. Peralta to Campinas was submitted by Prof. Gustavo P. Fraga, Coordinator of Division of Trauma Surgery.

Professor Peralta will present lectures by teleconference on April and May, and will come to another complete week at Unicamp on June.

About

Ruben Peralta was born in the Dominican Republic, trained at Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, and has authored or co-authored over 300 medical publications and book chapters addressing a broad range of surgical topics. He was admitted to the inaugural class of the prestigious Academy of Master Surgeons Educators of the American College of Surgeons inthe United States. As an educator, he leads the Trauma, Emergency and Critical Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education and training program of more than 50 physicians in trauma surgery, emergency and critical care medicine in the Middle East region.
