Teresa Margarida S. Alvega de Matos, medical student from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, had intership from march 13th to april 13th on School of Medical Science, SMS, Unicamp. She told about her experience.

“It was with great privilege that I embraced the experience of participating in a one-month exchange program of Internal Medicine and Semiology area at the Clinical Hospital of Unicamp.

During the first three weeks of the exchange, I had the opportunity to intern in the field of Internal Medicine and Semiology, under the supervision of Professor José Antônio Gontijo. In the morning, I would accompany the rounds in the General Adult Ward, where the entire team - composed of professors, residents, and students - would visit each hospitalized patient bed by bed.

After the rounds in the General Adult Ward, there were presentations of clinical cases of patients admitted to the ward, which, due to their particularity, were discussed in more detail by the entire team.

In the afternoon, consultations took place at the General Adult Outpatient Clinic, which were conducted by the residents. After gathering the patient's medical history, they would discuss the case with the professors.

The last weeks of the exchange program in the field of Internal Medicine and Semiology were focused on the field of Immunology and Allergology, led by Professor Lício Velloso. I had the opportunity to observe consultations in various immunology and allergology clinics - food allergy clinic on Mondays, venom and aeroallergen allergy clinic on Tuesdays, immunodeficiency and hereditary angioedema clinic on Wednesdays, urticaria and drug intolerance clinic on Thursdays, and atopic diseases clinic on Fridays. The dynamics of each clinic were similar to that of the General Adult Outpatient Clinic - the residents would gather the patients' medical histories and discuss them with the professors”, said Teresa.
