From 31st October until 24th December the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of the university of Campinas (Unicamp) received Georg Graf, a sixth-year medical student from Ludwig-Maximilians University at Munich, Germany, for a clinical elective of two months via LMUexchange with support of Unicamp.

Georg had the opportunity to experience both departments of trauma surgery and vascular surgery for one month each as implemented in the German curriculum of his final year of medicine studies at LMU. He was allowed to join all activities of local interns and residents at Hospital de Clinicas, e.g., lectures, morning rounds, simulations, scrubbing in at surgeries, out-patient clinic and also assisting in our emergency room.

After finishing his shift, he enjoyed hanging out with his newfound friends, going to parties, but also working out together in friendly competition. On weekends he also trips to São Paulo, to climbing sites or to one of the beaches near Ubatuba - to learn how to surf - were planned.

"I would love to thank all the interns, residents and Professors under supervision of Gustavo Fraga and Fabio Hüsemann Menezes of those two departments for making this internship possible, unforgettable and educational. We wish the exchange between LMU and Unicamp will remain prosperous, so many more students from both nations will be able to experience the different healthcare systems with all its advantages, disadvantages and challenges next to the diverse biotypes, panoramas and cultures", said Georg.
