The School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of Unicamp welcomed residents from Portugal last December: Luís Gonçalves, from Leiria (Anesthesiology), and Ana Moreira, from Aveiro (General Surgery), shared their reflections on what they described as an incredible experience during their Trauma internships at Unicamp. Read their testimonials below:

“I had the privilege of completing an internship at the Trauma Intensive Care Unit (UTIT) of the Hospital de Clínicas at Unicamp, in Campinas. It was an extraordinary experience that exceeded all my expectations.

I learned so much from a dedicated and highly competent team who welcomed me from day one and made me feel like part of the service. The approach to critical care and trauma at UTIT is truly inspiring and serves as a model to follow.

I am deeply grateful to Professor Gustavo Fraga, Doctor César Carmona, and the entire team who, with patience and generosity, shared their knowledge and expertise with me.

I strongly recommend this internship to all colleagues in Anesthesiology or related fields who wish to deepen their understanding of trauma and critical care management. It was a transformative experience, both professionally and personally”, declared Gonçalves.

“I had the pleasure of attending an internship at the Department of Trauma Surgery at the Hospital de Clínicas.

During the internship, I participated in complex surgeries, emergency procedures, and advanced elective interventions. I was also actively involved in the initial approach to trauma patients in the Emergency Room and their subsequent care in the Operating Room, Trauma Intensive Care Unit, and surgical ward.

Additionally, I had the unique opportunity to accompany the transport of critical patients via helicopter (Eagle), an experience that underscored the importance of speed and coordination in trauma management.

This internship was a unique and deeply enriching experience that profoundly impacted my training as a General Surgery resident.

I can wholeheartedly say that this internship surpassed my expectations. I sincerely thank Professor Gustavo Fraga, the entire Trauma Surgery team, and the residents for sharing their expertise and for making me feel like part of the team.

I highly recommend this experience to all colleagues who wish to advance their knowledge in General Surgery, particularly in the management of trauma patients”, reported Moreira.
