During July 2024, Lorena Luna and Gabriel Rippel, 4th-year medical students at the School of Medical Sciences (SMS) of Unicamp, participated in a clinical attachment at the Trauma Surgery Department of Hamad General Hospital (HGH) in Doha, Qatar. They had the opportunity to immerse themselves in an advanced trauma care environment.

According to Professor Gustavo Fraga from SMS Unicamp, Hamad General Hospital is a cornerstone of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), renowned for its specialized departments, among which the Trauma Surgery Department is a leader in delivering high-level trauma care. This department plays a critical role in the region, offering comprehensive services and advanced care for trauma patients, making it an important learning ground for medical students.

“We are deeply thankful to Professor Ruben Peralta and Sandro Rizoli (HMC), as well as to Gustavo Fraga (SMS), for their invaluable guidance throughout this experience. Their mentorship has not only enhanced our clinical skills but also reinforced our dedication to achieving excellence in healthcare. This attachment has opened many doors and created valuable opportunities for our professional and personal lives. It’s our first time in the Middle East, and we also had the opportunity to visit other remarkable places in the region, including Cairo and Alexandria. We hope that more students will get the opportunity to pursue similar experiences in the future”, the students declared.

In addition, Lorena and Gabriel said their experience in Doha broadened their cultural horizons, adding a valuable dimension to their medical education and journey toward becoming better healthcare providers.
