The School of Medical Sciences (SMS) from University of Campinas (Unicamp) received, from August to October 2023, the medical students Mathilde Vangilbergen and Ewoud Vankelecom, from KULeuven Medicine (Belgium) for internship in gynecology and pediatrics areas. They told about the experience.

“Throughout my three-month internship at Clinical Hospital of Unicamp, I was profoundly inspired by the dedication, expertise, and passion exhibited by everyone. The knowledge I gained and the experiences I encountered during my internship have not only broadened my understanding but have also significantly contributed to my personal and professional growth.

Working alongside professionals in the fields of gynecology and pediatrics has been an invaluable experience. I am grateful for the guidance and warm welcome provided by the doctors and staff of the hospital. The internship have undoubtedly enriched my perspective on medical practices.

Beyond the hospital setting, I am grateful for the chance to explore the beautiful country of Brazil. The rich culture, vibrant landscapes, and the warmth of the people have made my stay truly unforgettable. It has been a journey of discovery and personal growth that extends far beyond the confines of the hospital walls.

I am deeply appreciative of the opportunities granted to me, and I carry the lessons and memories from my time in Brazil close to my heart. I sincerely hope our paths cross again in the future!”, said Mathilde.

“My internship in the Gynecology (Caism) and Pediatrics was incredibly educational. The professionals I encountered, including doctors and nurses, shared their knowledge and experiences with such passion and dedication. Not only did they help me enhance my medical skills, but also provided insight into the unique challenges and successes of healthcare in Brazil.

The opportunity to work in both gynecology and pediatrics gave me a wide range of experiences. From assisting in births to caring for children, each day brought new challenges and learning moments. It not only helped me deepen my knowledge in my field but also boost my confidence.

What touched me the most was the warmth of the local community. Whether it was my colleagues in the department or people I met during my free time in Campinas, everyone was friendly and helpful. It opened my heart to Brazilian culture and hospitality. Local cuisine, music, and dance made my leisure time even more special. My weekends were filled with exploring the stunning natural landscapes and historical sites that Brazil has to offer.

I am grateful for the opportunities I received, the friendships I formed, and the valuable lessons I learned. This experience has broadened my horizons and will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on both my personal and professional life. Obrigado, Brazil, for this unforgettable chapter in my life”, declared Ewoud.
