The Molecular Genetics Laboratory was created in 1986 with funding from FAPESP, under the name of DNA Laboratory. In subsequent years the laboratory grew quickly with the arrival of Prof. Iscia Lopes-Cendes in 1997 who implemented the change in names. In recent years, the laboratory has been part of important multicenter projects, such as the Human Cancer Genome Project, the Structural Genome Project and the CINAPCE Project, all of them supported by FAPESP. More recently, the laboratory has joint the recently created Brazilian Institute of Neuroscience and Neurotecnology (BRAINN) which is part of a special program also supported by FAPESP.
